About Targeted Meets

Each season the coaches will target competition meets they think are suitable for each squad.  These are the meets that the coaches will attend.  There may be many other meets held throughout the year at various locations which swimmers are also able to enter.

Targeted meets will be posted and indicated by an * on our competition events page and communicated by email by Narrabeen SC coaches.

Types of Swim Meets

The types of meets offered by Swimming NSW cater for a range of swimming abilities:

Development Meets – offer new or younger swimmers the opportunity to compete with others of a similar level. These meets are great for gaining experience and gaining official times in new events, as qualifying times are often not a pre-requisite.

Qualifying Meets – provide the opportunity for swimmers to improve their PB's and to achieve a qualifying time for Area, Metro & State Championships. These meets often have qualifying times for each event.

Championship Meets – SMNE (Swimming Metro North East) holds both summer and winter area championships for which qualifying times apply. At a higher level, NSW Metropolitan Championships, NSW State Age Championships, and Australian National Championships are held for both long and short course seasons. These meets will have qualifying times for each event.

Open Water Events – provide the opportunity for swimmers to challenge themselves with another development pathway. Typically these events are longer distance.

Narrabeen SC coaches will advise swimmers about a targeted competition strategy for meets and events in line with their individual swimming goals.

It is recommended that swimmers enter targeted swim meets well before the meet closing date, as many tend to reach capacity rather quickly.
